Wildlife of Swanton Pacific Ranch

Swanton Pacific Ranch is home to variety wildlife species due to the diverse habitats: rangelands, wetlands, forestland and cultivated farm land. Wildlife management is an integral component of the activities on the property; this includes protection, enhancement, and management when necessary.

The riparian corridors within the ranch serve as important links in wildlife integrity and are also a major source of species diversity.

Integrating ranch operations while maintaining wildlife habitat has been a successful management goal overall. However, the feral pig and deer populations that have caused crop damage in the past and have an effect on rangeland operations. Coyotes, bobcats and mountain lion populations also pose a hazard to small animal species and in some cases, livestock.
